How To Make Money With Google Adwords
Currently web site of people promoting ads that say you can make money online by posting links online. Probably the most well known can be a guy who passes the name of Kevin. Kevin claims he's setting up a killing working part time and he encourages that you get your Google Kit and join him in posting links online and that means you to can begin making the large bucks also.
All the other ads about posting links on the internet get started with declaring that anyone can earn quick cash working with Google. That ad states that you're walking on paid with a weekly basis not to mention, they create getting started R-E-A-L easy. They claim there isn't any upfront costs. Cost-free to try and do is pay the $1.95 shipping and handling fee on your “Google Kit” and once it arrives, you'll be on your way to big paydays! What could go wrong, RIGHT? Believe me when I say to you, “Everything will probably fail. Here are the four deceptions they then use to trip people up.
Posting Links on Google Using a Google Kit Deception #1
The very first trick these companies use is to present the perception that you will be being employed by or handling Google! They use phrases for instance, “Google pays me obtain and I make $7,500 30 days handling Google.” Be sure to do understand for this, Google IS NOT linked to Some of these companies running these ads. Google don't even have “Google Kit” so it sells or offers and neither does Google possess a program that pays anyone for Posting Links on Google.
Posting Links on the search engines Utilizing a Google Kit Deception #2
Make Money Posting Google Links
Inside ads, you'll notice that some of them claim they get paid invest in by Google. They have become so brazen that they put up pictures with checks they say come from Google. Be ADVISED: Google has just one payment plan for affiliate marketers/publishers which is NET 30 days.
I've been both in Google programs, (Google Adwords and Google Adsense) since 2005. In the search engines Adwords, you pay Google for your privilege of running your ads on their network. If an individual is Posting Links online, These are PAYING GOOGLE For this!

I am a former executive recruiter and have been working with job applicants on revising and editing their resumes for many years. I have previous experience in professional editing and copyediting, and I also have a degree in creative writing.
Many professional resume writers are excellent at producing compelling language, but lack the perspective to develop a resume from a hiring manager or recruiter’s point of view. On the other hand, a seasoned human resources manager may know what needs to be on your resume, but fall short of the creative ability required to write it.
Trust your resume to someone who has extensive experience in both creative writing and in human resources. Here is how the process works:
• We will do a phone consultation to get a sense of your goals
• I will review your desired job positions and discuss them with you
• You will receive a draft resume within 48 hours
• We will make appropriate revisions together as necessary
I have experience working with entry-level applicants, professionals, and executive-level candidates. I have also written hundreds of federal resumes and KSAs.
Many people who have worked with me said they only began to get interviews after I worked on their resumes. I have a 99% satisfaction rate, and a 95% interview rate. Please visit my website to view samples of my work or contact me today to discuss your career goals.

Medical Transcription Jobs Resumes Jobs
Today is a big day in America. Only 36,000 people lost their jobs today, which is really good.
Now that is compassion as expressed by a true liberal. Reid is talking about the “good” news that official (i.e., government numbers) unemployment held steady at 9.7 percent in February. Underemployment, which includes people so beaten down by months of frustration of not being able to find a job that they have recently given up even looking, rose from 16.5 percent to 16.8 percent.
Similarly, the U6 number which includes everyone who wants a full-time job but has given up looking for one, ticked upward in February, once again approaching 22 percent.
But even Reid's “good news” number is a lie:
Of course, were it not for automatic “seasonal adjustments” incorporated by the U.S. Department of Labor a month ago, the unemployment rate in January would have risen to 10.6 percent, and the “underemployment rate” – which includes people who are so depressed with the job market that they’ve given up searching for work – would have climbed to 18 percent.
How long will this last?
Economists think it could take until the middle of the decade for the rate to drop back to a normal 5.5 percent to 6 percent.
One in ten workers looking for a job can't find one. One in five workers that want a job can't find one. How's that “stimulus” working out for ya?
And Reid thinks this is “good news”? Reid should consult an economist.
“Eight months into the much-touted recovery, the economy should be adding jobs not just losing jobs at a slower pace,” University of Maryland economist Peter Morici wrote in an analysis.“No study of economic history could yield a conclusion other than that the US economy (walks) along the precipice of a double dip recession.” . . .
Economist Michael Pento, of Delta Global Advisors in Parsippany, N.J., said the better-than-expected jobs number was boosted primarily by the 15,000 Census workers hired and does nothing to mask what he considers the near-certainty that the second half of the year will see another leg down for the economy.
“We still haven't created any jobs. They can't get any loans, their incomes are down and they face much higher taxes in 2011 and higher interest rates,” Pento said in an interview. “I don't know why anybody would think anything else. If I'm wrong I'll fall down and build a shrine to John Maynard Keynes.”

So You Want To Build A Website?
Source: So You Want To Build A Website?
Sponsor: Selling on eBay
Introduction
When I decided I needed a website for my business I had no idea of the planning involved. Like most people, I thought web design meant deciding on the graphics and the look of the pages and then by some magic it would all happen.I simply hadn’t had any exposure to the planning and build process which I now know to be extensive!
I have a friend who is in the business of SEO web design and website development so I approached him for a quote. As a complete novice who is computer literate up to a point, I was amazed at the depth of initial questioning required to find out exactly what my requirements were.
I had no idea about the various elements and the structure of the site and I found it mind blowing when I learnt about the amount of work involved. So I thought other people would be interested to know more about this complicated process particularly if you consider yourself a non computer person and have to get a website built. I have asked my SEO friend to supply the technical information for this article. In case you are wondering ‘SEO’ stands for search engine optimisation, and refers to the practise of getting your website ranked as close to the top of the results for a particular search term in a search engine. You see you’re learning already!
Stages in the Process
Target Audience
Before building a website there are important questions to consider. I was asked who would be my target audience. Who are my customers likely to be? Would they be children, businesses, home owners, sales people, parents or teenagers and so on? If you are not clear on your target audience then you are not going to be able to set the tone of the site correctly so this is a very important consideration.
The Objective of the Website
Then I was asked, what was the objective of my website? Did I want to sell services on line or use it to market my business and get more leads for potential customers? Maybe I would want to use the site as an online brochure to showcase my services. Another possibility was to use the website to foster a community so that I was in contact with other like-minded people, with chat rooms, online discussions and being supported by advertising on the site. This didn’t really apply to my business, although I did think about offering to advertise allied services!
I hadn’t quite realised the scope of a website but as I was asked these questions it became clear that a lot of careful thought went into the preparation before building a website.
Creating a Site Map
The importance of creating a site map is to get it clear in your mind of all the pages you will have on your website so you can prepare the content for each page and begin to design the flow through the website, such as when a user adds a product to their basket, then enters their delivery and billing address and makes the credit card payment in the correct order.
A sitemap is basically your blueprints or technical drawings from which all the other elements of building the site will stand, such as planning the navigation, SEO, copy writing and the flow through the site.
The aim is to make the site as simple to use as possible so that there are no barriers to getting into the website or making a purchase. For that reason often user name and passwords are set for the customer so that they are not put off making a purchase by having to register. How many times have you gone to buy something online and then been faced with having to choose a user name and password to create an account, and fill out all of your address details and decided not to bother in the end? Well they just lost a sale!
For a non e-commerce site things are simpler with a contact form which allows you to receive enquiries by email without publishing your email address on the website, thus avoiding junk email.Web forms can also validate the information before you receive it, so ensuring that the phone number provided does not contain words, and that the email address is in the correct format, for example. These things may sound very technical to us lay-folk but I assure you everything has to be decided on before starting on the construction of the site.
Your Domain Name
Choosing a domain name is often quite a challenge because every name you initially come up with will almost certainly have been taken. Domain names ending in .com are by far the most popular and internationally recognised; the snag is that it’s very popularity means that the majority of the shorter names have probably already been registered. However, you can usually think of some domain name that is available, which is much less time consuming than trying to purchase a previously registered domain name from its existing owner, most of the time just contacting them, and getting a reply is a challenge.
So looking at names with endings such as .net; .org .co.uk or .info may be able to provide you with the domain name you want. When choosing your domain name it is very important to include one or more of your keywords if possible as this can apparently help with search engine rankings. So although the name of your business is the obvious choice for a domain name, it is not necessarily the only option.
Copy
The next stage is preparing the content. This is not the design of your website – just the words and visuals you want to have one each of the pages.
Having gathered all the previous information you will need to decide what imagery you want to use within the website content. As we all know, a picture speaks a thousand words and remains in people’s memory far longer than just words.
For each image you could also have a caption, as the caption of an image is the next ‘most read’ words on the page after the page title. Images and their captions need to be clickable. When you click on a picture it should take you to the next stage of the process such as the sale page or placing an enquiry if your website is for lead generation. All images should also have alternative text or alt tags. Alt tags will display the hover text when you position your mouse over the picture, but also they are used by screen readers to assist visually impaired users know what the image is about. See the section below on Accessibility and Compliance.
Website Design
Finally we come to the design of your website.
I asked my friend in web design to comment about this and he says it is one of the most difficult stages of the process because it’s so subjective.
There are a number of ways to approach web design but ultimately you need to create a design brief for the designer(s) to work from. Look at other websites and your competitor’s websites to find out what you like or dislike. The design brief should give reference to the logo, any existing brand guidelines or schemes and fonts and colour schemes, and should also detail which pages of the website that the designer is being tasked with creating visuals for. See the Sitemap section below.
The very best results will be achieved by using a graphic designer, and beware – not all graphic designers are the same. A graphic designer who designs specifically for print is working in a different discipline than a graphic designer who designs for screen and specifically the web. So choose your designer carefully, look at other work that person has done and determine whether or not you like their style.
If you are working in the big time and budget allows, use multiple graphic designers who have all been given the same design brief and request three concept designs from each designer. If the client themselves also do a graphic design, even if it’s a back of the envelope scribble, you will then have 10 concept designs. The next step is to get them all together and select the preferred elements from each design. Then give the work to the selected graphic designer to work up as the final artwork. Once you have reviewed the final visuals the artwork files will then be provided to the developer, usually in layered Photoshop files.
The artwork should be finalised and agreed on by everybody before construction of the site begins. Otherwise it can lead to costly and time consuming changes and frustration for both the developer and the client.
Navigation
Another important consideration when building a website is how you want your navigation to work. You can have links within the content of your website, in the text, so there are not just links from the menu. You will need to decide whether the links will open into a new window, retaining your original page open or just change the page to the one clicked on. Next time you go online, you will realise how much thought has gone into the way in which a website works. You will may also have some ideas for improving how some of them work after reading all of this!
Production
Finally the preparation has been done and the site is ready to be built. Now for the more technical stuff! You will need to have decided which programming language to use to build the website. There are two main types for developing a website, one is Unix based, and the other is Windows based. Each one has advantages and disadvantages. If you are starting from scratch then it probably won’t matter, so you can go with the preference of your professional doing the work. My website is built on the Unix platform (apparently!) which is the same as many of the more well known websites such as Ebay, Facebook, Google and Amazon. Also your website hosting must be compatible with the development language with which your website is built.
Work In Progress
The best way to build a website and be able to monitor work in progress is on the web server where the site is ultimately going to live. This way, those involved in reviewing the work can see work in progress and provide feedback throughout the development process.
Launching Your New Website
The moment of excitement comes when your site finally goes live and you see the results of all the thought that has gone into the whole process.
Having put in many hours rewriting mission statements and demolition legislation texts for our demolitions website I was thrilled when the site eventually went live.
As soon as the site has gone live there is no substitute for real world testing though, so ask as many of your friends and colleagues to view the website from their own offices and give you their thoughts.
Accessibility and Compliance
The website has to meet the current standards for website coding and doing so insures that disabled users, such as the visually impaired, can still access the entire website if they are using a screen reader. It is also a good idea to also discuss conformance moving forward, particularly if you have a web content management system, because and accessible of compliant site may become un-accessible after six months of being edited by you if you do not add or edit the website content in an accessible manner.
Unforeseen Items
There are always things that arise in any project which you suddenly realise you have forgotten, so no matter how well the web designer prepares and asks the right questions, there is bound to be a last minute change of mind or addition to the site. The main aim is to minimise the number of glitches that might arise because they aren’t calculated in at the start and they could cause extra costs and delays on the date of the website going live.As a general rule it is always a good idea to get he site live to the original plans and then look at an update after it has gone live, unless it is a very small deviation from the initial plans.
Reporting and Monitoring
Once your website is up and running, you will want to know how many people visit your website and from that number how many actually buy the products or place an enquiry. From these statistics you can work out the ratio of visits to sales and gradually make changes to improve the ratios. There are some reliable statistics packages such as Google Analytics or Web-Stat.com which allow you to collect and review website visitor data in near real time. All you need to do this is to have a small block of code inserted into each web page on your site.
Another useful service that Web-stat.com provides is to monitor the website and warn you by email or text message if the site is offline.
Marketing
Once the website is live there are lots of things you can do to market your product or service. The first step is to submit it to the search engines and at the same time write articles, and press releases. Getting links to the site from forums, blogs and other social networking spaces are other options. For more on this subject ask your developer about SEO, remember that’s search engine optimisation.
How to be Found on the Web
One of the first questions I was asked was, ‘Do you want it to be found by Google the main search engine?’ If I did then there was a whole process of establishing Keywords. So finding the best keywords are vital if you want to be found in Google. He says there are two main types of keywords. The first is the trophy, or generic, keyword for the industry which in my industry is simply ‘demolition’. The second kind of keyword is the long tail keyword. These are not searched for as frequently but if you can get a match then they are much more likely to convert into customers. A good example of this in my industry is ‘factory demolition company Derby’. So it is very important to do a lot of research on keywords to find both those that are the most popular and the most specific. Generally most users only look at the top ten results so you will want to get your website promoted so as to get on this page for your chosen keywords. By using a keyword research tool such as the keyword lookup in the Google Web Master Tools kit you can find the single most popular keyword for your industry.
Conclusion
Wheww. What an amazing amount of work! I hadn’t realised when I started the process of getting a website up and running, how complicated it all is and how many factors you have to consider before even designing the website. The word web design is really a misnomer, as people often think it’s just about the graphic design on the home page, and the branding of the product. Unless you are a computer whizz, most people have no idea how much goes into designing and building a website and the systems that support the work you want it to do. I hope that this article gives you an understanding and insight into the whole process of website development from start to finish.Next time you type in a web address or click on a link to a website, remember all the above work that has probably gone into it!

Some Internet marketers try to direct traffic to their site by racing around, zooming from one traffic generation activity to the next, whether it be SEO, PPC listings, making solo mailing buys, jumping on the latest traffic tool mania, or all the above. Misery must truly love company, because this is precisely how the majority of internet marketers manage their business. Before they have even finished with one method, they switch traffic generation vehicles and join a "hot" new program or purchase some "revolutionary" traffic tool in order to give the latest, unproven traffic strategy a spin.
What if I told you that there is a much simpler road to travel for getting to your desired traffic destination? What if you only had to have ONE traffic strategy, and one that's proven to work? And what if this single method delivered even more traffic to your site, and thus sales, than ever before? Instead of weaving all over the information highway, you simply stay in the fast lane and keep on cruising!
Of course you should have the best traffic generation vehicle and know how to drive it properly; otherwise, you risk getting ran over by a "King of the Road" or stopped by Google Search & Destroy.
Have YOUR OWN online product to sell, and drive visitors to your site with on A SINGLE traffic strategy! Instead of trying to make countless various plans and programs work, you can get behind the wheel of this ONE traffic generation vehicle - Your Own Affiliate Program!
Why would you want to start your own affiliate program? Well, imagine if instead of you trying to master various traffic generation strategies by yourself, you unleashed a pack of affiliates to do the driving for you! And starting an affiliate program is not as hard as one might think. It's quite easy at affiliate network websites like Clickbank.com., because you are going to offer them the tools and information to be successful. Would you prefer to be an affiliate for someone that basically gave you an affiliate link and told you to go promote it, or someone that provided you with a great product and a great plan for success? Obviously the latter.
After starting your affiliate program, you can have it stand out from the crowd by offering to train your affiliates and give them a package of marketing materials, such as PDF reports (that they can re-brand), articles, ads, banners, and more. You can even encourage your affiliates to purchase those solo mailings in newsletters themselves to promote YOUR offer. And, of course, the more money they make, the more profit you make!
Learn who your most determined affiliates are and offer to personally train them. You could have every one of them specialize in a single traffic generation method, whether it be sending out articles, purchasing PPC ads, or any other of the many technics you are trying to handle all by yourself currently.
Once you have got your affiliate up and running smoothly, it's time to put the pedal to the metal. Get more affiliates. When they notice how well your current affiliates are doing, they will want to jump on the bandwagon, which will increase cash flow greatly and drive even more affiliates to your campaign. This is how you, your product, and your program reach critical mass.
Or do you think you could do the work of many people all by yourself? Of course not! Even if you could, why in the world would you want to?
Stop "playing" in traffic and begin creating your dream with your own product and affiliate program.

Single parents are turning to supplemental, second income sources via internet marketing at astounding rates and it’s no wonder. Most single parents are living below the poverty level, most are struggling just to have food in the house, let alone afford such luxuries as a good running vehicle, a vacation (away from the home), or even new outfit to wear to a job interview.
Since the majority of single parents are lacking a degree, many have to take jobs that just do not allow them to survive without some type of state assistance. They look online for ways to make money at home, spending money they don’t have on promises that in most cases, will not be delivered. But many of them are succeeding at businesses using their own hobbies, talents and skills, drawing on past experience to find unconventional paths to success.
Single parents who are short on resources and cash have found allies in internet marketing. There are several sources for making money online that don’t involve the typically redundant programs saturating the internet. The great thing about America is the fact that you still have the opportunity to be an individual. Single parents are learning this individuality can be very profitable.
With that said, there are several avenues in which you can succeed in online business, by using your own God-given gifts, skills and talents. Not only that, you can get help developing your idea, product or service, get funding to get it started, find people to promote it and it can cost you next to nothing.
I recently purchased a book titled “Single Parents Cash and Sources Guide”. I found this on a single parents site and it was shipped to me hard copy. It contained over 80 pages of hard resources aimed specifically at helping disadvantaged parents. There were tons of free grants and loans for just about every necessity from emergency cash to medical costs, as well as educational and business development grants . . . for single parents.
The book included who to write to, and where to get tips on grant writing, there were sources in there for free furniture, baby items, cars, career clothing, job training, college, work at home sources, medical travel, food, grants for vacations . . . all for single parents. Everything you can think of to help make distressful situations more manageble. The woman who compiled the book was a disabled, single parent who used some of those very resources to not only survive, but start her own mail order business and become an award winning song writer!
She did all of the above without the aide of the internet gurus or a web site of her own. Today, her book has expanded with resources and she offers a PDF format version as well as the hard copy which can be shipped to your home. She is now working on a web site called Single-parents-help.com, where single parents can get help, support and assistance in getting a business of their own developed and marketed. Her book is currently marketed through Ghostwriter Advertising Agency at Single-Parents-Help.com
Another interesting resource I found for young mothers as well as single parents is bizymoms.com which has ideas and business kits to start just about any business imaginable from home. Liz Folger also supplies a great bulletin board with business ideas, scams to watch out for, articles on business start up, e-classes on business for the single parent or stay at home mom. Their business kits vary in price and come with six month client support to help you get started in the business of your choice, the right way. What’s nice is that they also offer a sample video and chat for each course, so you can ask questions for each course to make sure you will like the business you decide to start.
Both sites offer resources for finding ideas for a business, marketing tips and methods and free tools and tutorials. I interviewed one woman who spend the last five years home schooling her children and supporting her family with marketing affiliate programs. She wasn't an internet guru, but stumbled upon a little trick by making a mistake in her ad copy. She repeated this mistake and it brought her up to $1,500 a day in extra income. Another single parent wrote and sold instructions on home schooling her children. Another single mom makes natural soaps and brings in almost $90,000. Her children help her.
Most people know what they are good at and what they enjoy doing. Knowing how to tap into your interests and talents and turn them into a profitable service or business may not be so easy. But you can find plenty of free information on how to get started on the internet.
I know there are a lot of seductive, work at home e-books, courses and opportunities out there. Single parents should make sure they are in a position to take a calculated risk before spending money on an aggressive sales site. Until they are, at the very least take advantage of the free help, sources and assistance that are out there, to put yourself in a better position. Your best chance for success is in developing an idea that revolves around your own skills, talents and gifts. And wherever available, single parents, use the help that is available from people that set up organizations specifically to help you.
You can get the most free information just by doing a search on articles or forums talking about the subject matter you are interested in pursuing. There is also help out there, specifically for single parents, for starting a business, taking a class or even completing a degree and you can do all that from the comfort of your own home, with your children right there.
Given the economy of today, it is almost impossible for a household with more than one child to survive on one income. And trying to work two jobs with children to care for can be detrimental to their well being as well as your peace of mind. Take advantage of the help that is available to assist you in building financial sovereignty using your own talents, interests, skills and gifts. There is funding available to help you get started, there are people and support groups set up to help you and lots of free advice and tips from other single parents that have done it.
Not only is it a viable solution to taking control of your financial future, it's a much more obtainable goal than trying to work two jobs outside the home and still have the valuable time with your children.

Wedding Entertainment. Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. To make sure you and your guests have a special and memorable day you need the right …

Gary “The G-man” Toms is a man of many talents. An accomplished journalist, talented disc jockey, actor, screenwriter and philanthropist, he could easily be dubbed a “Jack of All Trades.” However, there are some common and noticeable threads in all of his endeavors - a love of the arts, an affinity for creative expression, and a desire to make a difference.
A confident writer who covers a range of topics from politics to sports, The G-man takes a no-holds-barred approach to his writing. He is relentless in his pursuit of truth and justice and this is reflected in his writing style. He is hardly fazed by terms such as “political correctness,” which causes many a writer to lean more on the side of self-censorship in an effort to avoid controversy. On the contrary, he candidly shares his experiences and world views in an unabashed way that captivates his readers and keeps them coming back for more.
I recently caught up with The G-man for an interview, which turned out to be a very memorable and enlightening experience. Read and enjoy!
The G-man: Before we begin, I'd like to take a moment to say what an honor it is to be conducting this interview with you. Your accomplishments, both creatively and professionally, are nothing short of amazing. So, thank you for this opportunity.
Dr. M: Now that's the way to begin an interview! You have already won me over! Thank you for those kind and flattering words. And speaking of words, what words would the people who know you best use to describe you?
The G-man: The words they would probably use are intense, persistent, funny, creatively gifted, fearless and extremely compassionate.
Dr. M: You go by several different names - your real name, Gary, “The G-man” and “Scorpio.” Have I missed any? What purpose do these different names serve for you personally or professionally?
The G-man: You're the first to pose this question, and it's a great one. I have fun with this aspect of myself on first dates, as I often tell women I have multiple personalities. (Smiling) The look they give me is priceless. Gary is a really soft-spoken and extremely loving person that would be very content with living in a log cabin, near a babbling brook somewhere in North Carolina, and doing nothing all day but writing award-winning screenplays and watching the New York Yankees. “The G-man” is corporate America's, the government's and the entertainment industry's worst nightmare: a writer that will give power-players and decision-makers the middle finger in a heartbeat and call them out for what they truly are, especially if they are doing wrong or great harm to society. “Scorpio”, my deejay name, represents my intense passion for dance music and remixing.
Dr. M: You obviously have multiple interests and talents. What are you most passionate about out of all of your endeavors and why?
The G-man: You're three for three in the great questions department. I'd have to say that I'm most passionate about my film scripts, “Law of the Dragon” in particular, because it's dedicated to my brother, Jorge Daniel Quiles. We weren't blood brothers, but his mother sort of adopted me as a member the family from the age of 11. I learned so much about Puerto Rican culture, and I loved Jorge deeply. On Christmas Day of 1989, he was shot and killed, in Brooklyn, as he returned from Christmas Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. He was just an elevator ride from his apartment when it happened.
He tried to fight off his attacker, and as he turned to try and deflect the gun with a bag of gifts, it went off. The bullet struck him in the temple and he died instantly. I actually saw the body stretched out along the blood-spattered hallway, and he was still clutching the gifts he bought for his mother Petra, his brother Luis and me. All of his money and jewelry were intact, so he literally was killed for no reason. This was a man that was about to graduate St. John's University, attend law school and on the verge of getting married. He absolutely loved my writing, which I never took seriously back then, and he pleaded with me to never stop, especially after he read the draft for “Law of the Dragon.” Six hours after that conversation, Jorge was dead. I haven't stopped writing since, and I'm proud to say “Law of the Dragon” is now in the hands of a major executive at NBC/Universal Pictures.
Dr. M: What a heartbreaking, earth-shattering experience! Having gone through something so tragic and senseless, you could have easily spent your life mad at the world - living recklessly and not caring who you hurt in the process. But you have let this experience fuel you to do some wonderful things and you've been a blessing to so many people. You are such an inspiration. I'm sure that Jorge would be proud of you!
Tell me about your father, Gary Toms Sr. I know that he was lead singer of the Gary Toms Empire, a group that achieved much success back in the '70s with their smash disco hit, “7-6-5-4-3-2-1 (Blow Your Whistle).” How would you describe your father as 1) an entertainer and 2) a dad?
The G-man: As an entertainer, my father was and still is a creative genius. He literally was a child prodigy. He couldn't read or write music and didn't finish high school. One day, while he was still very young, he just sat down and started playing the piano. He eventually mastered nine different instruments with no professional training. He was on magazine covers, “Soul Train”, “American Bandstand” and a host of other pop and disco-oriented shows. That song and album was a monster for him, worldwide. It's why people actually blow whistles in dance clubs to this day.
With regard to fatherhood, and I have to turn into The G-man to answer this one, he f—ing sucked! He was physically abusive, greedy, mean-spirited and selfish, which ultimately led to his downfall as an artist and person. It's fair to say I grew up without a father. We haven't talked in years, but some day, hopefully soon, he'll come to know of my success. I love him for giving me life and his creative genius, but it ends there.
Dr. M: You've just alluded to the fact that we can learn good and bad things from our parents. What are some things that you learned from your father that have stayed with you throughout your life?
The G-man: There are two things: how to synchronize musical rhythms and/or beat counts to perfection, and to never, ever sacrifice your family in the pursuit of acclaim and success. When fame came knocking, dad bounced… and bounced fast! My mother was a crucial part of his success, but she gave it all up to single-handedly raise me, Linda, Tonya and Nejla, much to his displeasure. If you saw the movie “What's Love Got to Do With It?” - the story of Ike and Tina Turner- that was the type of home I grew up in before he left. I never wanted to put any woman in a position to feel like she was second to my career. I vowed to never do what my father did, and that's a key reason why I never married or started a family. I'm on a mission, and once the mission is completed I'll begin to focus on a wife and family.
Dr. M: What kinds of music do you enjoy most?
The G-man: As stated earlier, I love dance music, especially “house music”. I also love Salsa, Beethoven and Classic Rock groups like Fleetwood Mac, Jefferson Airplane and the Eagles. One day I'm going to do a wicked remix of Fleetwood Mac's classic “Rumors” album. (Smiles) I can't stand gangster rap!
Dr. M: You've noted in the past that another one of your passions is philanthropy. How did your love of philanthropy originate and what has been your biggest philanthropic achievement to date?
The G-man: It originated from doing volunteer work in churches, soup kitchens and homeless shelters in Queens and Brooklyn during Thanksgiving. Since my sisters and mom reside in other states, I'm often alone on the holidays. A few of my friends were already volunteering, so I got involved. I loved it, and I vowed that one day I would play a larger role, financially, in helping those in need. To date, my biggest philanthropic achievement has been raising close to $20,000 for wounded and financially distressed soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as military widows and their young children. My deejay partner, “Bass King”, and I were able to accomplish this by teaming up with Hollywood deejays for a major dance party concept I created, which I'm trying to take national. With a little media exposure, I know “The Desert Heroes Dance Party” will take off and help thousands of military families across the country.
Dr. M: These are all wonderful initiatives Gary. You are to be commended for all of your philanthropic achievements - past, present and future ones!
Let's move on to your writing. You are a highly accomplished journalist, having won several awards for your work. Which awards are you most proud of and is there any special reason why?
The G-man: It was truly a blessing to have received them all, but if I had to pick from the seven I received in 2002, I guess they would be the one given by Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY), State Senator Malcolm Smith (D-NY), New York City Council Member Joseph Addabbo, Jr. (D-NY) and Queens Borough President Helen Marshall (D-NY). They honored me for my work involving the World Trade Center attacks, where the community I reported from lost 70 residents; the crash of Flight 587 in Belle Harbor (Queens); and an investigative feature on dangerous security breaches at CVS Pharmacy, which forced the CVS franchise to change its policy regarding the removal of customer information from its databases and stores nationwide.
Dr. M: I am not at all surprised by these awards. You are THE most hard-hitting writer that I have encountered to date on Associated Content. You write the things that others are often afraid to write and you have gained quite a following. Where does this courage come from?
The G-man: Again, I have to cite the murder of my brother. There was something I didn't state earlier when detailing the incident. Not only did I see the body and all the blood surrounding it, I saw how cold and heartless a city bureaucracy could be. You see, because the killing took place on Christmas Day, the New York City Housing Authority didn't have maintenance workers on staff that could come and clean the area after the coroner removed Jorge's body. So, me and two other close friends of the family were forced to mop and wipe up the rest of Jorge's remains. Talk about rubbing salt on a wound!
I carry that s–t with me to this day, and I'm thoroughly convinced that incident created The G-man. It's the rage that fuels me and allows me to go where most writers won't. It's also why I have such an intense dislike for bureaucrats and bureaucracies. Unfortunately, most people misinterpret him as a brash and egotistical bastard, but The G-man is just a voice, a symbol, for those who are sick and f—ing tired of being wronged by society or corrupt state and local government agencies. One of my “G-fans” recently noted, “You're a lot like 'The Batman'. There might be something to that. I happen to love “The Dark Knight”.
Dr. M: Without question, you are a writer known for striking up controversy. What has been your most controversial article on Associated Content to date? Did you know that it would be that controversial?
The G-man: It's a tie between “How Love Conquered the Bloods” and “President George W. Bush: The Dancing Fool!” I knew both would be extremely controversial. In the case of the Bloods article, I knew there was a good chance that I'd be killed! A few years ago, I snatched up one of their recruits who was 24 hours from being inducted into the notorious gang. They couldn't have been thrilled about losing a prospect. Still, I posted the article without reservations. With the Bush piece, I called out the President of the United States and dared him to say something about it! I know for a fact the major news organizations logged on to AC and read it because a few hours before his daughter Jenna's wedding, a CNN reporter asked Bush, “Will you be doing a lot of dancing, Mr. President?” Bush looked as though he wanted to avoid the question altogether, which, based on my media experience, was a question most reporters wouldn't ordinarily ask.
Dr. M: While you have written on a variety of topics, much of your writing has centered on politics. Why has this topic been of particular interest to you?
The G-man: Here's my answer, short and sweet: most politicians are assholes that need to be held accountable. So, I ride them and the political system, full-throttle, like a big, badass Harley-Davidson.
Dr. M: What is the one thing that you desire to accomplish most in your writing career?
The G-man: I'd love to become the first African-American screenwriter to win “Best Original Screenplay” at the Academy Awards…for “Law of the Dragon” or “A Flame That Burns”. If not that, I'd be happy with being recognized as one of the bravest and most creatively gifted writers in America by my peers and the literary world.
Dr. M: Is there anything about Gary “The G-man” Toms that readers would be surprised to learn?
The G-man: Yes, two things. I have studied Chinese martial arts, Wing Chun, Tai Chi Chuan and a little Jeet Kune Do, since I was eight years old. I stopped a couple of years ago, but I still practice with a few close friends. The other thing is I made it to the preliminary round of “Jeopardy!” in 1993. I received a letter requesting that I fly to Los Angeles, but financial constraints prevented me from taking advantage. I can still get 80 percent of the answers and hope to have another shot in the future. (Laughing) Maybe I'll be on the celebrity version one day. Put your money on The G-man!
Dr. M: (Laughing) Will do! Once you achieve your big win on Jeopardy, I'm sure that people will want to know even more about The G-man. Describe a typical a day in the life of Gary “The G-man” Toms.
The G-man: I'm up at 5 or 6 a.m. I shower so the neighbors don't think I forgot to take out the garbage. Then, I have a cup of green tea. I drink at least four cups a day, and I split the day between working as a freelance writer, researching articles for AC, taking my daily walk, working on new scripts and TV show concepts, remixing and trying to gain media exposure and corporate support for The Desert Heroes Dance Party. I try to be in bed by 12 a.m., but “Frasier” often prevents that from happening. (Smiles)
Dr. M: In what ways do your public and private personas differ?
The G-man: When I'm Gary, my world is extremely private. Here's the weird thing: I don't like being the center of attention, and I hate confrontation! (Laughing) What the hell is that about? I've been a mentor to a young man I regard as my son, Michael, for the last four-and-a-half years. He's the one that was going to join The Bloods. I prefer tranquility in my life and love being near secluded lakes or beaches. I'm an introverted neat-freak with an extremely sharp wit and a probing mind. I absolutely love cooking and sensual kissing. I just don't get to do the latter very often. On the other hand, The G-man and Scorpio are definitely showmen who take great pleasure in raising hell in the media and on the dance floor. They're extroverts to the extreme, and both love loud music, fine wine and warm women.
Dr. M: I hear that you are an eligible bachelor. Do you see marriage in your future and if so, what kind of woman would be a good match for The G-man?
The G-man: Oh, here we go! I'm going to end up on ABC's “The Bachelor” after this question. (Laughing) Yes, I would love to get married some day. It's just that I'm dedicated to my career objective and very, very picky when it comes to women. Hell, when it comes to marriage you have to be. We're talking about a lifelong commitment, and I'm the type that would only want to marry once. When I love, I love deeply and fight to make it work.
Okay, to all you ladies out there, here's what it would take to land this bachelor: 1) She would be able to attend a ballroom gala with the beauty, class and elegance of the late Princess Diana of Wales and hold engaging conversation with Nobel Prize winners and foreign dignitaries…while slipping in a dirty joke or two. 2) She would be able to leave the ballroom, disappear into the bathroom, rip the gown off, emerge from the bathroom in a tight and extremely sexy mini dress and whisk me away to the hottest dance club in the city. 3) After seducing me on the dance floor, she'd take me home, light an assortment of scented candles and make love to me in a canopy bed atop red, satin sheets until we fell asleep in each other's arms. 4) Upon awaking, she would shower with me, pack a bag and board a plane with me bound for Africa. While there, she would help me to gently feed tiny babies dying of AIDS. Simply put, she is extremely intelligent, but not so much that she takes herself too seriously. She is drop-dead gorgeous, sexually playful and bold. She is so phenomenal in bed that I would never seek another for sexual pleasure, and she has an overwhelming sense of love and compassion for those less fortunate. This is the woman that would be an ideal match for The G-man, Scorpio or Gary.
Dr. M: (Laughing) Are you certain you're not looking for Angelina Jolie? Because this was the first image that came to mind as I heard your description - minus the bedroom stuff, of course, which is more information than I care to know about her. Anyway, I hear that Angelina is currently very pregnant - with twins. And I don't know if she would be able to handle Gary, or any of his alter egos for that matter!
On a more serious note - before your days are over here on this Earth, what are the three biggest things that you would like to accomplish in your life?
The G-man: First, build one of the largest media/entertainment companies in the country and share my story with thousands of teens through public speaking. Second, use a significant portion of my company's earnings to fund programs for poor, inner-city kids and people seeking a new start after being released from prison. Last, and certainly not least, to shower my mother, and sisters, with all the things she should've had after forsaking fame for family.
Dr. M: I have truly enjoyed doing this interview with you Gary. I'm sure that readers will appreciate your openness and be moved by your words. I wish the best of luck to you with all of your endeavors. I know we'll be hearing much more about you in the very near future!
